In the early 90’s Florian Papp was auctioning off a set of 1755 mahogany Chippendale-Gothic side chairs- The set of 10 was available for $250,000.00. The design was very interesting, but we only had the small clipping to go by. We enlisted the help of Andrew Gibson, a former designer of Baker Furniture, to detail a sketch for our artisans to go by. See sketch below.
In prototyping this new style the only trouble was the transition of the back posts to the arm rests. After pursuing different configurations with our hand carvers we settled on the final design. This Gothic chair exemplifies our dedication to style and elegance which has exceeded all of our expectations.
